    reviews/comments

    from jonathan jarman:

it's hard to tell how many in the sparse ampitheter but i would say around 1,000 people watched on (mostly 'gwai fans). the ones that where however certanly made the 'gwai feel at ease with some big whoos at the end of the songs (especially 'summer')

they didn't look so happy playing in the 90 degree heat and early evening sun, but still put in a professional performance, and stuart thanked the audience after every song for their support.

they looked so small in the huge, mostly empty amphitheater though. it really wasn't ideal 'gwai territory. they should have defo been on much later in the bill, especially as crappy bands like muse and the rapture got good later slots.

stuart's distortion pedal wasn't plugged in so the heavy bit of 'yes! i am a long way from home' was delayed whilst the roadie came on with the adapter! d'oh. the band professionally continued the song without any fuss however, and i dont think anyone noticed who didn't know the song. so no damage done. after the track finished it looked from the back of the amphitheater that stuart flicked the middle finger at the bumbling roadie standing at the side of the stage (i am sure playfully).

probably about the 10th time i have seen mogwai and the first time i have heard 'yes! i am a long way from home', and 'summer'. i love the way they mix up the sets and hardly play the same set twice (if ever). all in all it was a good experience, and the rest of the gig was ok, highlighted by interpol and the mighty cure. only bad side was the 6 dollar watery beer. 9 dollars if you didnt want crappy american beer.

looking forward to more mogwai shows in the future, i just hope this tour doesnt wear them out.
