from tim hanson:
mogwai rocked portland tonite. earplugs definitely a must, 'xmas steps' and 'you don't know jesus' were amazing. thanks to the lads for showing portland a great time!
from ted ehrich:
support from local band the swords project. this group can definitely deliver some intensity. seeing two drummers and an accordian was unexpected. i've heard their only lp and i'd say i enjoyed the live experience more.
this was my first time seeing mogwai live. the venue only seats 600, so that may be why it wasn't as loud as i expected. hearing the songs live definitely has a different impact, both good and bad; the explosions definitely engulf you more, with the hair on your arm shaking, but the subtleties are subdued and the experience for me is overall less mental. that's no one's fault though. i didn't expect it. i wanted to take more pictures and possibly record some little movies on my camera, but the security guard at the front of the stage seemed like a dick. someone held their phone up to let their far away buddy hear and he told him to stop. "no recording devices". so i took a little movie at the beginning of "long way from home" and pocketed it. i had a plug in my left ear, it being closest to the speaker, but i took it out at the end to experience ratts in stereo. barry stayed after for a little bullshitting and autographs. overall, very fun and a great group of guys.
