From Andrew:
thank you mogwai for playing a full uk tour. it's nice to drive to places i haven't been to for a good few years apart from london, manchester, scotland etc..4 shows done & i'll loved every bit of it. live music is undoubtedly a drug.
gateshead/newcastle...well, this rolls into my top 3 gwai' gigs of all time. complete silence & respect all the way through from a thoroughly appreciative geordie crowd. to think that in 13 years they've gone from playing to 40 people upstairs in a poxy club (riverside) to playing the sage is immense.stuart even thanked us for being so very quiet & said they feel very lucky to be playing such an magnificent place. soundwise.. honestly nigh on perfection. helicon 1, cody & x-mas were as crystal as you would hear on record. if ever a recording of this crops up it will be a gem.
looking back i'm glad they didnt play any of the beasts...satan, my father mk, hasenheide etc because this venue is for delicate intricate detail, not white noise. highlights were cody, death rays & killing flies..
it actually took me back to the bute gig many years ago in the pavillion. similar interior..all wood, superb acoustics etc..
nights like this reaffirm (if we ever need it) why this band is just such a major part of our lives. april 97' to today & i still cannot get enough of em'.
