http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2008/09/mogwai_played_a.html http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/feature/145829-live-review-atp-new-york from sam hunt: it was such an amazing weekend. we drove up all the way from north carolina to see the festivities, but i was still most excited about mogwai and the prospect of finally seeing "2 rights make 1 wrong" live, after witnessing technical difficulties last week in atlanta which made them replace it with "xmas steps." from james: brilliant weekend! brilliant performance by the band. if martin wasn't feeling well during the performance it didn't show. kutshers was creepy but an ideal place for the shows. it was rundown enough to not be a big deal to trash the place a little. from gigwise: easily set of the weekend. i love the new record, and it was magnificent in its glacial sweeping; think early labradford, or thundering eno. the older bits ('like herod,' 'mogwai fear satan') were devastating. clouds form, storms clash. after the show drummer martin bulloch had a health problem which necessitated the cancellation of the remaining north american dates. will look forward to seeing them in early '09.

stage 2
martin bulloch played this show whilst suffering medical difficulties which resulted in his being hospitalised almost immediately afterwards. i was taken into hospital last night almost immediately after the show at atp. i’ve been having some problems with my pacemaker for the duration of the tour and it unfortunately culminated in me being sent to the emergency room. the doctors there initially thought i would have to have corrective surgery at a larger hospital nearer nyc but i have been given the all clear to travel home on the understanding that i go straight to my cardiologist on arrival back in scotland. as a result, the last six dates of mogwai's september 2008 north american tour were postponed until 2009. |
