from martin:
erm...perhaps it was because i was really tired from work, but last night's show was ok-ish
by mogwai standards (mind you, that's still a very good show in my
book), even though they had a cello player accompanying them on some songs. not a lot of stuff
from 'rock action' was played. 'punk rock' as a coda to one song. a brilliant 'like herod'.
the encore was a gorgeous rendition of 'my father my kingdom'.
noticed a soundboard dat running along with the show, and asked the
soundman whose it was - it turned to the lads's. perhaps a live album in
the making?
from paul:
they attempted to play flute on helicon 2, but this was quickly abandoned due to some sort of sound problems.
gig ended in a *long* noise terror feast.
three songs from the show were broadcast on 'het lek' on radio 3fm, the netherlands on 22/5/01.
these were 'like herod', 'secret pint' and '2 rights make 1 wrong'. the broadcast is archived at the vpro
website - follow this link:
het lek online.
the broadcast is split into three one-hour real audio files. mogwai's 3
songs begin at 29.20 in the second hour (tweede uur). the 3 songs play for just under half an hour.
thanks to steve pearson.
