mogwai returned to the historic 40 watt club for the first time in five years, and played a really
great show. the sound was clear and full -- at times, my clothes were vibrating. they opened
with a fantastic version of helicon 1 and kept it coming all night. they finished the evening up
with an extended version of "we're no' here," building layers of looped sound and leaving the
stage while it continued. the crowd wanted more, but the show was over. at the level of the
trivial, stuart had on a stooges shirt and mr. bulloch, god bless him, was wearing a shirt of the
now long-defunct, san francisco death/black metal band possessed.
